[ARCHIVED] Sewer Bill Increase

Dear Residents of Lincoln,

We want to provide clarity regarding the recent increase in the Town’s sewer fees, a decision made to address critical infrastructure needs in our town.  The Town of Lincoln utilizes an enterprise fund to upgrade, repair, and monitor our sewer infrastructure which includes over 100 miles of sewer pipe and 32 pumping stations.  The last sewer fee increase occurred in 2010, which has caused this fund to run at a deficit for the past several years.  Although we aggressively seek other funding opportunities, such as grants, it was necessary to increase the sewer fees as we try to address sewer needs.  This increase was approved by the Town Council at a public meeting held on August 20, 2024.  The meeting can be viewed on the Town Website.

Reasons for the Fee Increase

  1. Aging Infrastructure: Many of our sewer lines and facilities are outdated and require immediate repairs or replacement. This increase will help fund necessary upgrades to ensure reliable service.
  2. Increased Capacity: With Lincoln's growing population, our sewer system must accommodate higher demand. The fee increase will support expansion and enhancements to handle future growth.
  3. Preventative Maintenance: Investing in regular maintenance will help us avoid larger, costly repairs down the line. This proactive approach is essential for maintaining system reliability.

Allocation of Funds

The additional revenue from the fee increase will be directed towards:

  • Replacing aging pipes and infrastructure
  • Improving system monitoring and technology

We appreciate your understanding as we work to maintain a safe and efficient sewer system for our community Thank you for your continued support.
